Bents Green School - Work in the Community

16th February 2018

Here is what Sonia Thomas-Coleman, a PE Specialist teaching assitant at Bents Green Secondary School, had to say about the session:

"On behalf of the students and staff from Bents Green Special School, I would like to thank the coaching staff at Hallamshire Tennis & Squash Club for engaging and working in partnership with us in such a productive and positive way!
The students that participated in the coaching sessions, found it fun, challenging and over the weeks staff could see their skill levels vastly improve. The sessions helped the students to further develop their confidence in being out in the community, being taught in a new environment and to enhance their social and independence skills.

I hope that we can maintain links with the club and in the future be able to offer more Bents Green students the opportunity to learn how to play Squash."

Here is what one of our coaches Sam Gardiner had to say about the session:

"We are very proud of all the students from Bents Green Secondary School who have participated in our squash coaching sessions.  We have worked with their friendly and energetic staff to encourage each student to work independently when learning the various court markings, different shots and how to play and score a game.  Our aim has been to build on their strengths and interests, and also help their personal and social development by coaching the basic fundamentals of squash.    We have seen their confidence grow over the course of the weekly sessions, and have all had great fun on court, both with the students and their amazing energetic staff.  Looking forward to working with them again as they continue with their squash sessions, as part of their Sport in the Community Enrichment Programme.  Without our main sponsor One Health, Apex would not be able to offer to free of charge taster session to school and specialist groups in the Sheffield area."
